Ladies finger Thoran/ Vendaka Thoran / Bhindi Sabji
- 1/4 1/4 Kilogram Ladies finger
- 1 Onion large cut fine
- 3 Green chilli slit
- 2 2 Tablespoons Oil
- ½ ½ Teaspoons Mustard
- 1 1 Teaspoon Pepper Powder
- 1 Garlic pod crushed (optional)
- 1/2 1/2 Cup Grated coconut
- A few Curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- A pinch of Asafoetoda (kayam) (optional)
Cut ladies finger in to two pieces and then slit in the middle.
Heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds.
Add onion, green chilli , curry leaves, crushed garlic, kayam (optional) and ladies finger with salt. Mix well and keep it covered for 5 mintues. Do not add water at all.
Open the lid, add salt and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper powder. Stir well.
Cook for another 5 mintues by keeping the lid open and stirring occassionaly.
When the ladies finger shrinks and the onions turn brown, add 1/4 tsp pepper powder and serve hot with with rice or chappathi
Cut ladies finger in to about half a cm wide rounds.
Mix the grated coconut, green chillies to a coarse form in a mixer.
In a pan / Kadai heat oil.
When it becomes hot, splutter the mustard seeds. Add onion, ladies finger and curry leaves. Stir well and keep covered to cook for 5 minutes
When onion turns light brown, Add the ground coconut mix to it. Add salt.
( you may also add directly coconut and green chilli without grinding)
Saute it well and cover with a lid. Saute it in between.
Keep it in medium flame and stir its done.
Serve hot with Rice
